Auld Lang Syne

For old-times' sake  The good will propose a cheer and a toast To everyone who accepts their good deeds The humble will still bless the proud To give him plenty of time, as time, is a remedy for the proud. The end of this year, I saw the people gather at the side of the perimeter. They were watching the runway where the aircraft landed. Lovebirds, friends and families spread out picnic mats, enjoying artisan food. I saw celebration in the landscape of the green, green grass of Runway Village. I saw a couple dance under the sky, waiting for the sunset while their friend took their happy moment with a video camera. The airport landscape made it seem more dramatic.  Like borrowing the Aloha 'hello' and Aloha 'goodbye'  Yeah, let's do this with sincerity for our friends, for old-times' sake. Let us sing our testimonies of love, hope and miracles.  Dancing carefree, express your feelings, you just won the battle of the year.   Photo Source: Pixabay (Photographer:...

Adventure with God

To the mountain, where I can find the fire hole To the valley, where I can look for the water stream To the city, where I can find an exciting job To the cave, where I can find the bats To the grave, where I can find reality To the highway, where I can feel the velocity To the lake, where I can enjoy silence To the big river, where I can feel the danger To the deep blue sea, where I can see the other creatures I am going on an adventure with God.

When you see a rainbow

Photo Source: Unsplash (Photographer: Ramone) When you see a rainbow Remember The Promises of God When you see a rainbow  You think about the colors When you see a rainbow You know that you cannot touch its colors But you can touch the flowers When you see a rainbow  You know that 'the colors' are everywhere And you can make one on glass  When you see a rainbow Follow The Light.

Christmas: Coca Cola Gangs

Photo Source: Pixabay (Photographer: Дарья Иваненко) How many of you have strong childhood X'mas memories with Coca-Cola? I do have scenes that I would share with you. I remember my Christmastime in my hometown as a child. The children will walk around the neighborhood and visit friends' houses or any houses that signaling they have an open house. With open doors, loud X'mas songs and the welcome shiny ornament hanging on the top of the front doors signaling that the house is welcoming the children to eat cookies and drink soft drinks like Coca-Cola a nd Orange Juice. On December 25th each year in Maumbi Indah, my friends and I always walked in teams, or gang up with the kids we know from our school or Sunday School. But we can always easily switch teams and gang up with new friends as we please. The mission was to find a house that served Coca-Cola for children. Yes, so we hunted Coca-Cola.  At noon, we were already bloated with orange juice because most of the houses serv...

Christmas Eve for you and me

Photo Source: Pixabay (Photographer: Sabrina Ripke) Reader, What do you usually do on Christmas Eve? Fun fact, some Christians in JABODETABEK go to a charismatic church at 10 pm to perform the extravagant worship on the night before Christmas with a crowd of believers who sing through the night. While some Christians in Singapore, they gather at a Chinese restaurant, sit around a fancy dinner table with their big family. For some Christians around the world, staying at home and having a big-batch dinner is always a custom.  Beside the alluring glistening ornaments like in Tsim Sha Tsui Christmas light in Hongkong, all Christians enjoy the vibe of Christmas celebration, that is togetherness. As for me, while my husband works in Singapore almost most of Christmas days, I make it a habit to write a song on Christmas Eve. Last night, I wrote this song after dinner with my son.  A collection of words and tunes from my heart. Things that I can remember in the future. These songs I w...

X'mas Self Esteem

Photo Source: Pixabay (Photographer: Sidra Iftikhar) Merry I live in the capital city and don't have a boyfriend. My parents live in another city. I always spend my Christmas days in a boarding house. Thank God I have a few friends who want to join me at church.  Happy I study at college at night and work in the daytime, don't have a boyfriend, my parents have just divorced, and my mom always makes us spend Christmas holiday in a hotel in town. This is how we survive Christmas. Joy I work a full-time job as a waitress in a Chinese Restaurant. I spend my Christmas in a restaurant. I volunteer to work on holiday, because my family is not in this country. My fiancé can not come to see me. The Christmas ornaments are the only festive thing that makes me feel like Christmas day.

Shortcuts to The Introverts' Desk

Photo Source: Pixabay (Photographer: BARBARA808) If you cross paths with introverts, you'll need extra time and effort. No need to mingle around the extroverts. Just laugh and they will find you. Let's put some effort into approaching our introverted friends. Here are probably the shortcuts, at least to their desk. Floriography me! Have you ever heard of Floriography? The languange of flowers is a form of communication through arrangement of flowers. This special arrangement works like magic. Date with a profile page first! Company profiles are the best. If you are an individual, social media platforms are the best tools to represent YOU. Facebook, Instagram, X even the vloggers and bloggers platforms are the best representatives. Letters please! Email first is mandatory! A thank-you note or a postcard with a verse works like a charm. If you are a long-time secret admirer, a love letter or a scented card with a verse inside a book will be the right gesture. I would like to offe...

Mother Earth

Are you familiar with this lyric?  "Everything I need is on the ground. Nah, but they don't hear me though Yeah, what goes up it must come down. Nah, but they don't hear me though  You're running out of time!" Times up! You got it right! It's Rosé's On The Ground lyrics. Nothing could be more true than this. 'Mother Earth' or 'Mother Nature' is a personification of nature that has aspects of life-giving and nurturing, like a mother should be. Based on the Bible or any other ancient literature, a mother gives birth and has a god-given capacity to nurture her young ones, not only her biological children but also the children of others. Why not The Earth Father? So, who is the father? Is he The Sun, like in a nursery rhyme, O Mr. Sun? Back again on the life-giving nature and nurturing aspects, our Earth literally provides our basic needs, which are oxygen and water. Can you ask Mr Sun for oxygen and water? Of course, you can't! Our starshi...

Monotonous Days

Say Monotonous Days! Ouch, the title sounds like a torture, but, never a torture for these 4 young women from Asia. KUALA LUMPUR I'm Grace, working in a camera shop in one of the biggest malls in KL. The other day I met a girl name Cindy. She asked whether I study in college like her. I said I am working in this shop to earn money, so I can go to college. Cindy said she studies at night and works in the office in the daytime. I don't think I want to rush like her. HONGKONG I'm Lynn, a researcher. Today is just like the other day, cooking, working and waiting for my hubby. My hubby is a police officer, so I always prepare his meals daily, and I do enjoy cooking for my husband. Today I BBMing my Indonesian friend. I met this girl when I was on holiday with the other researchers in Bali. She was enjoying her lunch alone in our hotel beach club. I started a conversation with her, practicing my English. I remember that day she drove me around Seminyak and back to Kuta. She is in...

Kathy replied with a frown. What's with the fuzz gals? Dodo asked from the inside of his room. GUYS, don't be like a bunch of stone-aged kids, it's just the buzzing from the MCBs. Tony shouted from his unit upstairs. They do not know what exactly it was.  3rd FLOOR Millennials are working, dreaming, saving, buying, investing, staying and, in the end, dying to know what has happened. Do we make mistake buying something we don't know well enough? Do we need to attend seminars about smart city? Asked the woman from a radio channel. YES!!! Charlie, Yann, Novia, Tanya, Hotmann, Indila, Alpheus responded simultaneously.  GROUND FLOOR The loud buzzing or humming MCB is dangerous. Said Brad, the engineering guy. It could be one of the circuit breakers overloaded. He added. The buzzing was loud it ...

Catfish with The Art of Making Sambal

Photo Source: Pixabay (Photographer: Heri Priana) Will you include fried catfish in your lunch menu like the Indonesians? We eat this God-given popular fish with many choices of chili sauce called 'sambal'.  If you have not tried making 'sambal' by yourself, I will encourage you to do so. The art of making sambal is your very own personal taste. The sambal reflects your taste, your soul. Let me introduce you to Xena, Artemisia and Moana. YES, I name my sambals 😊 Xena is the simplest and spiciest in taste. It has two main ingredients; lots of chili and a tiny bit of pounded garlic. For savory, savory, I add three teaspoons of hot oil that has chicken fat in it, salt and a little bit of MSG, and don't forget to add a few drops of key lime juice. In the making of Xena, we slightly grind the chillis. Artemisia is a good friend to fish and tacos. It has three main ingredients; ten green tomatoes, ten chillis, and ten red onions. For savory, savory, I add ten spoons of h...

The Garden is Rich

I could not agree more with this title 'The Garden is Rich' I came across few blogs and found that this particular Native American prayer was probably most fancied by the bloggers and poets. Let's see if you can also feel The Mystery. The garden is rich with diversity With plants of a hundred families In the space between the trees With all the colours and fragrances. Basil, mint and lavender, Great Mystery keep my remembrance pure, Raspberry, Apple, Rose, Great Mystery fill my heart with love, Dill, anise, tansy, Holy winds blow in me. Rhododendron, zinnia, May my prayer be beautiful May my remembrance O Great Mystery be as incense to thee In the sacred grove of eternity As I smell and remember The ancient forests of earth. - Chinook Psalter Also can be found at: https://www.xavier.edu/jesuitresource/online-resources/prayer-index/native-american#GardenisRich

Shy Princess

Mimosa Pudica is one of the plants that have seismonastic, thigmonastic and also nictynastic movements discussed in the 'Power of Movement in Plants' by Charles Darwin. The book provides evidence for the theory of natural selection by Darwin himself and was published in November 1880 by the publisher, John Murray. Mimosa Pudica or 'Ojigi-So' as in Japanese, meaning greeting weed, while Indonesians call it 'Putri Malu', meaning shy princess. This 'shy princess' has been my favorite plant till today. I classify it as a plant that communicates. The movement of plants always has meaning. It is us that gives the meaning. Japanese say the Ojigi-So bows every time we touch it. Indonesians think that Putri Malu always nods as if it nods shy every time we touch it. Mimosa Pudica is so sensitive, it is said that the movement is to avoid danger from animals and some insects, because animals are scared of plants that move. Mimosa Pudica bows, nods or closes its leav...

Tiptoeing with your heart

"The heart has the beats If life hits you hard, you must follow the beat" This verse simply means 'Follow your heart!'  When talking about the heart, we associate this vital organ with love, passion and hobby. How about heart condition? We need to pay attention to the doctor who keeps checking our heart rate. I consider my heart as my alarm. If it start to feel funny, I will tiptoeing on the spot,  like doing my ancestor's traditional dance, The Maengket Dance of Minahasan. Maengket means dance on tiptoe. Some people in Asia believe that tiptoeing is good for the heart. It increases heart rate and good for blood circulation. Johny Clegg and Sipho Mchunu and their band Juluka have a song titled  Heart of the dancer (1982) I like the opening verses: I want to look in the heart of the dancer His movements have a magic mystery They must have a message and a meaning 'Cause his doing something to me. I believe dancers have stronger hearts. And in their every movem...

Lion King

One night, a middle-aged man accidently heard his son pray beside his bed. "Dear God, this morning I heard mom talking on the phone with her friend saying that dad is a liar. In fact, dad is the king of all liars, and divorce is the only solution to their problem. God, I looked for the word 'divorce' on Google and I know it is about going separate ways and saying goodbye to each other. I don't want that to happen, God. I hope you help my family to stay together in this house". When the boy said Amen, the man enters the room and said, "Son, do you want me to tuck you in?" asked the man. "Sure dad." Replied the boy. "May I ask what mom said on the phone this morning about me while talking to her friend?" Asked the man, he aimed to explain something to his son. "O dad, mama said you are a Lion King." The kid replied with a smile. Image Source Pixabay (creator: Chiplanay)

Chillin' but choke, what to do?

Do the Heimlich maneuver on yourself. I love everything spicy, but since I got choked while chillin'  Like a lil fairy fly from my stomach ascended to my throat,  And suddenly it was a life and death situation. That is why I never eat anything too spicy, no more. Once again, God I appreciate the gravitation. Velocity

Velocity in the city  Sometimes accompanied by stupidity Velocity in the city Diminishes mortality Velocity in the city Reach quantity keep the quality! Velocity in the city Just one click makes everybody happy. Let's just order a Big Pizza! Call the Ambulance! Call the police! Just book the cleaning service online! Track the taxi driver's location! Chat the doctor! Speed is everything, fast is good, pay more for express services.  What makes us living in a fast pace? What makes everything so fast? Is it the technology? I think because we are all connected, and the technology connects us. What happen if we lost all the signals? Image source: Pixabay (creator: GrapicMama-Team)

Green pimples of the sea

Green, green pimples of the sea Drive me back to Jakarta please! When searching for things to do in Jakarta, the beach seldom comes to mind. The fact that Jakarta has The Thousand Islands. Affordable holidays, island hopping and maximum fun water sports. I like Jakarta's choice of islands, like Tidung island, Pari island, also Ayer island - the closest to the city and more.  White sand, magnificent blue sky, sunrise, the lil' Nemo fish, and canoeing exploring the green pimples of the sea, I mean it's so great to see those bushes while paddling toward the sunset 😀 O there is so much to see in the Thousand Islands of Jakarta. Plain Manager

When you wake up in the morning  And all you can think about are your problems.  Don't forget to pray and write a To-Do-List  One down, two down, ... Check it one by one when you get your stuff done  When night comes  Make the time to checked it twice. The great teacher said once: The master commended the unjust steward... Luke 16:8-9 He dealt shrewdly, made friends, benefited others with what could not ever save him; money. If you handle things like this Shrewd Manager, you build another bridge for you. But if you do the usual, do your duty like the way the children of lights do,  You have God to say to you, "Well done!" Image Source: Pixabay (Creator: Mohamed Hassan)

A Walking Terrestrial Radio

I have good news! We are living in the age of brain transparency.  Only The Muppets will have some privacy. But, NO worries! A must-have book for Millennials is out this year, 'The Battle for Your Brain' by Farahany. The Professor wants to protect our private thoughts. The aim is to create awareness of cognitive liberty, set boundaries, and change the human right to cognitive liberty. Bottomline, neurotechnology can read our brainwaves.  Currently, we walk like a terrestrial radio with our brainwaves detectable by these neurotech devices. These neurotechs bridge what once a pseudoscience has now become scientific. From 2015 Mark Zuckerberg has already said the future of communication is 'telepathy.' Elmo might say, "So, what needs to be done?" I think we need to support Nita Farahany who is fighting for our cognitive liberty. Or being skeptical and listening to 'Radio Active' by Imagine Dragons. Or enjoy life and sing 'Shalala lala' by Vengaboy...

Asthma and Gravitation

I'll take a stroll and pick rocks like Andy in Shawshank Redemption.  Hang my head and shoulders off the edge of bed like Stella in Five Feet Apart.  Why is it God made this tree shape upside down?  Or maybe I have to take a bow? Toward my Maker, I bow down and say thank you for every breath. Thank you for the free Oxigen. I appreciate the gravitation. Photo Source: Pixabay (Photographer: Petra)

What is your major?

One day, a girl volunteering in a mental institution. She and her newly-metfriends from different backgrounds were given the task of befriending the patient and asking questions. Lucky for this girl, she was introduced to a nice lady, who has recently shown the qualities of a florist. So the girl asked, Auntie, I can see you have your very own display case with your artistic bouquets here. You are artsy.  The woman replied, yes I am. I was a bachelor of arts, you know?! Wow, so what was your major, Auntie? Asked the girl  Hmm, Floriography. Said the woman. Sorry say again, what did you study in college? The girl continued asking.  Of course, Flora and Fauna. The woman replied with a smile. They looked at each other and both laughed, enjoying each other's company. Photo Source: Pixabay (Photographer:Reksik004  олег реутов  )

Morning Glory and The Night Owl

Morning Glory says let me dance in the morning and smile at you as you start your day. Let my beauty shine together with the sunshine till sunset put me to sleep. The night Owl says let me sing through the night, gonna sing you lullabies until you are lost in a dream like the rest of the dreamers. Photo Source: Pixabay (Photographer: Ilo)
